Today I wanted to talk about how to use lavender for weddings.  I love lavender and I incorporated it into my own small family wedding in 2013.  Because fresh lavender was not in season in Michigan in mid-May, we used fresh lilac arrangements instead in a rustic mason jar.  We picked our lilacs from our own garden.  This is also a cost-effective way for the budget conscious bride to make some beautiful centerpieces.  I also incorporated dried lavender bouquets since fresh was out of season as decor and as attendant’s bouquets.  I also used lavender and rose petal sachets for favors and had a lavender-themed cake.  Feel free to mix and match lavender with other flowers such as lilacs or roses or wildflowers for sachets, centerpieces, and bouquets.

I have included ideas for lavender-themed weddings in the above gallery.  Most of the photography is my own from our wedding or from the products available on our Etsy shop. I hope you enjoy it and it gives you some ideas to get started.

I do not make and sell wedding cakes pictured so the photos included are stock photography and pictures of the cake that was made for my own wedding (with cross topper) .

CENTERPIECES:   The bouquets in mason jars pictured are my own creation made from flowers from our home garden.   These make great table centerpieces for weddings or showers and great for those on a budget.   These photos give you an idea how you can make your own simple arrangements incorporating lavender and other flowers such as lilacs and lilies for example.  Unfortunately, as this time,  I do not sell my floral arrangements but this may be something I consider doing in the future.

Another great idea is painted and distressed mason jars.  These make wonderful shabby chic centerpieces.  You can make your own – there are several tutorials available online or you can purchase them (we do have some on our shop as pictured in the gallery).   These vases are really versatile.  You can fill them with water and add fresh flowers or you can use silk flowers.  The color choices are endless and these can be reused as home decor or nursery decor later on down the line.   I’ve even used these for birthday party centerpieces and fill them with flowers and attached balloons.   Lavender Lanterns centerpieces are also another great idea (see below section for more detail).

BOUQUETS: Dried lavender bouquets are also a great alternative when fresh lavender is not available.  These can be used for both the bride and bridesmaids.  There are lavender sprig boutonnieres available for the groom and groomsmen.   You can add other wildflowers or wheat to these bouquets or boutonnieres or just do plain lavender.

Currently, we do not have dried bouquets available on our shop. We hope to have a line of dried bouquets & boutonnieres sometime in 2017.  Dried lavender bouquets can be purchased online or at local lavender farms in your area.  If you have your own lavender plants you can dry your own.  Just hang upside down in a warm, dry, dark place with good air ventilation.  Please allow several weeks for drying time before the event.  Pick the lavender before the buds are full bloomed.

FAVORS:   The options for lavender favors are endless. Some of the products we have available are lavender beeswax candles in 4 oz mason jars, sachets, and mini soaps, and bath salts.

The old stand by of lavender sachets never go out of style.  You can fill sachets with just lavender or in combination with other dried flowers such as rose petals.   Our shop has several options.  We have traditional organza sachets available in 12, 25, 50 or 100 quantities in lavender, ivory, or white colors.  We have embroidered muslin sachets – fill your own, in 30 or 40 sachet quantities that comes with 1 pound of lavender.  We also have rustic hand-stamped sachets and pearl sachets. If you need a custom order on anything on our shop just drop me a conversation via Etsy.

*Personalized tags are not included with our sachets at present.  I purchased mine for a reasonable cost from another Etsy seller who specializes in personalized tags.

Our 4 oz beeswax mason jar candles are festive yellow with confetti of lavender buds.  These are great favors for your wedding or shower that guests will love and actually use.  Beeswax is a higher grade wax than soy or paraffin and has a cleaner, environmentally-friendly burn.  We have listings for 12 and 24 candles in addition to individual candles.  For larger order please allow 1-2 week total processing and shipping.  These are hand poured and made-to-order.

Another idea for favors are mini soaps in organza bags.  We have several soap ideas available on the shop.  We have 3 hearts, which are our most popular.  We can also customize and only include 2 hearts for a lower cost.  Just send me a conversation on the Etsy store for pricing of bulk orders (discounts apply).  We also have rose shaped soaps and honey bee soaps that make great favors.

We also have a small lavender dead seas salt bath soak in a mini hinged top mason jar that would make a great favor as well.

LAVENDER TOSS:   You can place loose, dried lavender in paper cones and use this to toss at the happy couple instead of bird seed or rice.  We do have bulk lavender in 1/2 pound and 1 pound for this use.  It can also be used for crafting  Paper cones are available at wedding suppliers on Etsy or may be available at craft stores or online.

LAVENDER LANTERNS:  What a great way to make a beautiful outdoor wedding or reception shine.  They can be hung from tree branches or hung from hooks or placed on steps.  When the candle is lit it releases the scent of the lavender.  These can also be used as table centerpieces for rustic weddings.  We’ve just added a new listing to our shop. .

CULINARY LAVENDER:  Mini jams and jellies make great favors.  We make a wonderful lavender jelly.  I shared the recipe on a previous blog post this year.  Feel free to use this recipe and just get some 4 oz or smaller mini sized jars for cute favors.  We are not currently selling our jelly and jams online at this time – but hope to do so in the future.   I have included a photo of our jelly in the gallery to use as a guide.

I also have included a picture of some of the lavender shortbread cookies (dipped in chocolate and plain) that I made for my son’s swim team bake sale.  The shortbread recipe is also available on our blog.  A great favor would be placing one or two heart-shaped cookies in a decorative bag with a pretty ribbon.

The possibilities are really endless for a lavender themed wedding.  I hope I have shared some good ideas to get you started.  Many of these items can be purchased from our shop as mentioned or you can get creative and make your own.
