Speaking of Marquette. Out stint in Marquette is over. We left with mixed emotions. My husband had been working up there for the past several years. I was a crazy commuter between the lower and upper peninsula as I have a son downstate finishing up high school and I was care giving for my terminally ill mother. She sadly passed away at the end of April. I did spend a fair amount of time in Marquette including all summer and other times throughout the year.
We had so much fun exploring the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We enjoyed so many tranquil walks along Lake Superior, hikes through dense forests, and climbs to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain. We traveled to Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine Mountains and it was hands down the prettiest, most peaceful place I’ve even been. We saw tons of waterfalls as the U.P. is a mecca for them. We loved downtown Marquette, it’s history, and trying out all the wonderful eateries, pubs, and breweries. My husband’s job has transferred him back downstate to Southeastern Michigan – where we started and have a home. Our plans are to stay in this area for about another year.
We have made the decision to move on from our current property after our youngest son graduates this year. We are looking at remaining in SE Michigan most likely, but we have decided to finally take the plunge and purchase a property with some acreage with thoughts of becoming a destination lavender farm. Having more land will allow us to expand the number of plants and products we can make. We have a lot of plans in the works and we will keep everyone posted on our progress.
I posted some photos I took of some some very impromptu bouquets I assembled. I love the contrast against the brick and the really old redwood fence. These bouquets are a great idea for rustic center pieces or a great way to spruce up an old fence for a garden party or outdoor event. The old redwood fence is on our property and has been around many, many years. At least 20 years at my count, but it certainly could be older than that as it was installed by the previous owner. It’s starting to show it’s age and rot in places, but honestly I like the character. Eventually it will have to go and be replaced by a new one, but I imagine that will be something for new owners to tackle.
